During the competition, our tractor goes through a few transformations in order to make a specific weight. It’s what many people call “ballasting up”–Airliners do the same thing with passenger cargo. The current set of rules dictate that our tractor must weigh no more than 800 lbs. Although the pulling events are advertised as the 1000 lb and 1500 pulls. This is where ballasts come into play.
Challenges:
It can be challenging to properly distribute the ballast weight of the tractor for optimized pulling power while maintaining structural support. Some teams have gone as far as to make moving ballast systems.
